Splitboarding in Hokkaido Japan 2017/18 winter

Splitboarding in Hokkaido Japan 2017/18 winter

I was lucky enough to spend the winter based in Furano, Hokkaido, Japan split board guiding for Whiteroom Tours. They are an Australia based company building guiding operations in both Furano and Niseko.

Based in Furano gives you a real touch of Japan without the westernized atmosphere. Furano is located in Central Hokkaido surrounded with some of the best ski areas and the tallest mountain range in the entire island. This gives you access to travel to an array of areas with less than 2 hours in any direction. Hokkaido has a very stable snow pack with cold consistent temperatures throughout the winter. With the continuous large amount of cold low density snowfall, this combinations gives us a very safe and often predicable snow pack with blower conditions on the regular. Having such a stable pack gives us the ability to ski large, steep lines with relatively low avalanche risk.

The constant culture and food experiences will never disappoint in Japan! With such a strong presence around every corner will keep you on your toes. if its late night in some hidden alleyway or mid afternoon at the local 7Eleven you will always have more options than you know what to do with. Some of my biggest highlight were being able to ride hard all day
